Kelsie Carlton

"I believe that each person is unique

and deserves a personalized approach."

Hi there, and welcome!

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website—I'm so glad you're here. My name is Kelsie Carlton, and like many of the counselors here, I was born and raised in rural Johnson County. My roots run deep in these small towns, which makes it a true honor to serve individuals, couples, and families throughout the surrounding communities.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Development and Psychology from the University of Central Missouri in 2018, all while working as an Integrated Health Specialist supporting individuals facing mental health challenges. I went on to complete my Master of Science in Human Development and Family Science, with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy, at UCM in 2021. Now a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I specialize in working with individuals who have experienced trauma. I have years of hands-on experience in the mental health field and a deep passion for helping people break through life’s barriers to build confidence, resilience, and emotional well-being.

I understand that starting therapy can feel intimidating. That’s why I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients can feel truly heard. I use person-centered approaches, including Emotion-Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. When working with individuals who’ve experienced trauma, I draw from Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also use play therapy techniques when working with children. My approaches are rooted in building strong therapeutic relationships and tailoring each session to meet the unique needs of each individual.

Outside of my work as a therapist, I’m a proud mom of two and a coach for my kids’ sports teams. I enjoy spending my free time playing slow pitch softball, volleyball and spending time at the lake with friends and family.

Thank you again for your interest in our counseling services. If you feel we might be a good fit, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!
