A little bit about Mak . . .

Mak Deckert
Hey there, my name is Mak Deckert. I’m really glad you’re here. Therapy can be a powerful tool when it’s paired with the right environment—one where you feel comfortable, understood, and able to show up as your true self. I’d like to share a bit about myself so you can get a sense of what that environment might feel like with me.

I recently earned my Master of Social Work from Louisiana State University and completed my LMSW license. For the past 10 years, I have worked in community mental health and crisis services, supporting individuals and families through a wide range of challenges. I feel this has given me a deep understanding of the vast barriers to accessing mental health care, the impact of stigmas, and the resilience required to seek support. I have a special passion for working with neurodivergent (“neurospicy”) individuals, as well as clients across diverse gender identities and those in the LGBTQ+ community. I also enjoy working with individuals navigating disordered eating, body dysphoria and dysmorphia, substance use, and those who have experienced domestic violence. Lastly, I have a deep connection to foster youth and families, shaped by both my professional work and my experience as a former foster parent.
My approach is collaborative, genuine, and strength-based. I often draw from Narrative Therapy and Solution-Focused approaches, while also incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Somatics. This means we will explore your story, make sense of it together and identify how it has shaped you. Additionally, we will build practical, skills-based tools you can use in your everyday life. I am especially passionate about helping clients develop coping strategies that can be taken “into the wild”—tools that feel realistic, accessible, and supportive outside the therapy room.

I believe therapy should feel like a place where you can be honest, authentic, feel safe being open to alternative ideas or thinking patterns, and feel valued and understood. Whether you are working through a difficult experience, building new coping skills, or creating meaningful change, my goal is to walk alongside you with my own authenticity, curiosity, and respect.
You don’t have to figure everything out at once. You just have to be willing to take the first step—and I’d be honored to walk with you on that journey.
