A little bit about Imani . . .

Imani Baxter
Hi, my name is Imani Baxter and I’m so glad you’re here.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University in 2020 in Criminology and Criminal Justice, with an emphasis on juvenile trauma. In 2026, I graduated from National University with my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, with an emphasis in trauma-informed systemic therapy. I am currently a Supervised Marriage and Family Therapist working toward full licensure.

Before becoming a therapist, much of my work centered around children, families, and trauma. I have worked in group home settings with children and adolescents, as well as with the Arizona Department of Child Safety as a child abuse investigator. These experiences deeply shaped the way I understand people, relationships, survival, and healing. They also gave me firsthand experience working with complex family dynamics, children and teens, parents, individuals, and families who have experienced trauma, stress, and major life transitions.

In therapy, I work with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families navigating a variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, communication struggles, marital conflict, family stress, trauma, and relational wounds. I understand that people often come to therapy carrying more than just one “problem.” Many are carrying old stories, painful experiences, patterns that once helped them survive, and hopes for something to feel different.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that you are not the problem — the problem is the problem. I often draw from Narrative Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, trauma-informed care, and Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy when working with couples. This means I pay attention not only to what you are struggling with, but also to the relationships, systems, experiences, and stories that have shaped how you see yourself and the world around you.

I believe therapy should be a space where you feel safe enough to be honest, supported enough to feel less alone, and challenged enough to grow. Whether we are working on healing from trauma, strengthening communication, rebuilding trust, setting boundaries, or understanding yourself in a new way, my goal is to walk alongside you with compassion, curiosity, and respect.

You do not have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. You just have to be willing to begin. I would be honored to be part of that process with you.
